Add Domain Names as a Reseller

As a reseller, you are able to register and manage domains on behalf of your customers.

The process of adding domains to an account will be different depending on whether the domain is new or if it has already been registered, and whether you or your customer will be the owner of the domain name.

Note

Gandi is required by ICANN to verify the emails for owners of ICANN sponsored domain names. For orders where the customer is the owner, the customer must validate their email by clicking on a link in an email sent to them Gandi. You can find out how to resend these emails here.

New Registration

To register a domain for a customer follow these steps:

  1. Follow the normal process for domain name registration.
  2. During the first stage of checkout click “Invoice To” and select the reseller organization.
  3. Click “Select Owner” and choose who will be the owner of the new domain. This could be you (the reseller), an existing customer, or a new customer. To choose a new customer select “Create” and go through the process to create a new customer.
  4. Complete the rest of the checkout process as normal.

After we process your order you will receive an invoice and the owner will be the account you selected. If you created a new customer, you will also now be able to manage them as one of your customers.

Change Owner from Reseller to Customer

If you wish to change ownership of a domain that is currently owned by your reseller organization to one that is owner by a customer, you will need to follow the standard owner change process. This process is only valid for domains owned by your Gandi reseller organization.

Transfer from outside Gandi

If you have a customer’s domain at another registrar, and you want to manage it at Gandi under your reseller organization, you must launch a domain transfer.

When you start the transfer choose your reseller organization as the one to invoice. After you choose your reseller organization under “Invoice to” you can then choose the owner of the domain. You can choose an existing customer, create a new customer account, or choose your own organization as owner. Transfer from within Gandi

If the domain meets any of the following criteria, you can change ownership by using the domain transfer process.

  • In your personal account
  • In one of your other organizations
  • With another Gandi reseller
  • Managed by your customer directly

By simulating a domain transfer operation in such cases we are able to verify that all information and permissions are processed correctly.
