Frequent Questions: Domain Transfers

How do I correct the transfer authorization code and relaunch the transfer?

If you need to relaunch a domain name transfer because the authorization code (EPP code, auth code, auth key, transfer code, etc.) was missing or incorrect, follow these steps:

  1. Scroll down and enter the new code in the appropriate box and submit.

I need to relaunch the transfer and resend the confirmation mail

Two common reasons for relaunching a transfer include:

  • One or both of the owners did not reply before the deadline.

  • You need to resend the confirmation emails due to an email change.

Relaunching the transfer is possible from the domain’s transfer progress page.

  1. After logging in, select “Domain” from the left menu.

  2. Click on the “In Progress” tab.

  3. Click on the name of the domain name.

  4. Scroll down to step 5, and click on the round-arrow relaunch icon next to the email address that did not answer yet.

We will then recheck the email addresses (if they changed) and will resend the confirmation mails. We will also relaunch the transfer for free.

Where can I get my authorization code?

To get your authorization code (also called authorization code, EPP transfer code, EPP code, Transfer code, auth code, etc.) follow these steps:

  1. After logging in, select “Domain” from the left menu.

  2. Click on the name of the domain you want to transfer.

  3. Scroll until you see the “Transfer out” tab and click on it.

  4. Click “Copy” to copy the authorization code or “Generate a new key” to generate a new one.

Note that only the domain’s owner or administrative contact, or user with equivalent permissions, have access to this code.

How do I unlock my domain (remove the transfer protection)?

You can unlock your domain for transfer by following these steps:

  1. After logging in, select “Domain” from the left menu.

  2. Click on the name of the domain you want to transfer.

  3. Scroll until you see the “Transfer out” tab and click on it.

  4. Toggle the switch next to “Transfer lock enabled.”

What if my domain is with a reseller?

If your domain name is managed by a reseller, you will need to see with their support team regarding this change, as they are the technical intermediary between you and Gandi.

They may be able to transfer your domain for you. Otherwise, you should ask them about ‘releasing’ your handle, which would allow you to log in to our site to manage your domain.

I’m not receiving the verification email.

For some extensions, after successfully completing the transfer process at the new registrar (eg. accepting their transfer in confirmation mails and providing them with the auth code), we will send a outgoing confirmation email to the domain’s owner with these details:

Subject: [GANDI] IMPORTANT: Transfer of EXAMPLE.COM to another registrar From: ****-transfer-out@gandi.net

If you do not click the link in the emails, the transfer will be accepted automatically 5 days after it was launched successfully at the new registrar.

What if I change my mind?

Domains generally cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or transfer. Some registries will allow you to transfer back to the original registrar before the 60 day limit if both registrars agree to the transfer, but the rules vary by registry.
