Frequent Questions about GandiCloud VPS¶
What is OpenStack?¶
OpenStack is an open source software suite, designed for the construction of Cloud services. The OpenStack project is supported by a large community of users, as well as contributors. Gandi has chosen to join this community and to rely on OpenStack for the design of its new Cloud services. This will give our customers the benefits of using recognized and lasting software and will provide our customers a range of quality services.
What is the difference between a GandiCloud VPS and a Gandi Cloud server?¶
These two offers provide you with virtual servers. Gandi Cloud is Gandi’s historic platform, and has been offering VMs for nearly 10 years. Gandi Cloud services can be totally personalized. The functions of Gandi Cloud will be gradually included in the GandiCloud VPS offer.
How are GandiCloud VPS billed?¶
GandiCloud VPS are billed monthly, as a prepayment. To ensure maximum simplicity in the daily use of the platform, purchases are processed using your prepaid account. Thus, it is necessary that you make sure that you have the necessary amount in your prepaid account, or that you have a valid means of payment associated to refill your prepaid account automatically.
Can I choose the location of my server?¶
On the GandiCloud VPS offer, it is currently not possible to choose the location of your server. All the servers are hosted in our FR-SD6 Datacenter. New locations will be opened in the future.
Can I install a CMS on a GandiCloud VPS?¶
As with any VPS offer, once the server is created, you will have admin & root access, allowing you to deploy any application or CMS (Wordpress, Drupal, Magento, etc.)
Is my server data backed up ?¶
The Gandi infrastructure has replication mechanisms to guarantee that your data has a quality level of protection on our end. However, this cannot replace periodic and remote backups, and should not replace your own backup policy. This safeguard is your responsibility. The ability to take snapshots of your images will be available soon, and may help you in this purpose, but this also does not replace a remote backup.
The configurations do not match my needs, can I create a server with a tailor-made configuration?¶
Today, it is not possible to create a tailor-made server. New configurations will arrive in the coming weeks. Also, we invite you to contact us to let us know your exact needs.
