How to Create Public Interfaces with an IP Address for Your Cloud Server

During the creation of a server, the interface is automatically created and attached to it before the server started. You also have the possibility of creating additional interfaces and attach them to the same server.

The maximum number of interfaces that can be attached to a server (both public and private) is 4.

To create your interface, go to the “IP Addresses” tab, and then click on “Create an IP address” button. You will then choose the settings for your interface.

  • Type: Public or Private. Public interfaces are accessible from the exterior.

  • Location: The datacenter where your IP address will be created. You must choose the same location as your server. It is not possible to attach an interface created in the Paris datacenter SD3 to a server created in the SD5 datacenter, for example.

After entering your options, check the box showing your acceptance of the agreement. When the form is compelte, click on “Create”.

On the next page you can then:

  • Edit the Reverse DNS of your interface. This is the reverse resolution of the IP address to its name. If you do not define a reverse DNS, we will give you one by default that will be in the form of: “XX-xvm.ghst.net”.

  • Choose the server that the interface will be attached to following its creation. If you do not define a server, the interface will remain available, and you can attach it to a server at a later date.

  • Delete the IP interface.

Note

Remember that you can also create and manage your IP interfaces directly from the management page of your server under the tab “IP addresses.”

Attach and Detach IP Interfaces to Your Server

Attach an IP Interface

To attach an interface, log in to your account and select the “Cloud” from the left menu. Inside cloud, select the “IP addresses” tab. Find the interface you wish to attach and click the arrow to the left of the name.

You will then see the management page of your IP interface. From this menu you can attach the interface to an existing server.

Note

Only servers located in the same datacenter as your IP interface will appear in the list.

Detach an IP Interface

To attach an interface, log in to your account and select the “Cloud” from the left menu. Inside cloud, select the “IP addresses” tab. Find the interface you wish to detach and click the arrow to the left of the name.

Once on the IP interface management page, select “Detach” to disconnect the interface from the server.

Warning

Be careful when detaching or deleting your primary interface, because it has a static configuration. You should edit your network configuration to use a new interface, or set your primary interface’s configuration to use DHCP.
