When is a Change of Ownership is required?¶
„Change of ownership“ refers to any action of moving a domain name from a the owner account to another owner account, even if the declared owner does not actually change. In fact, you must make a change of ownership in the following cases:
If the current owner is a company
A simple change of company name even when the identification or registration number (Siren / Siret in France) does not change
A change in the identification number (Siren / Siret, etc.) of the company that owns the domain name
A change of status in the company that owns the domain name
An assignment of a domain name to any third party (even if you have an assignment agreement or if the future owner is somehow connected with the current owner of the domain name)
A merger or absorption of the company owning the domain name by another company
If the current owner is an individual
A change of the first or last name of the person who owns the domain name
An assignment of a domain name to any third party (even including if you have an assignment agreement or if the prospective owner is somehow connected has any connection with the current owner of the domain name)
A change of ownership process is the only method allowed by the majority of registries to amend contact information about the declared owner of a domain name.
For the majority of our extensions, this „change of ownership“ operation does not change the expiration date of the domain name. The process is also usually free (please check our rates page for more details).
